Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day – A day of celebrating Mothers. But what is the day like when your mother is no longer here? For me and my sisters, today will be 10 mothers Days without her.

I felt inspired to write something about my mum, and a thought came to me about her and her love for her sarees – “The lady in bandhani sarees”

Bandhani is a type of tie-dye textile decorated by plucking the cloth with the fingernails into many tiny bindings that form a design.

As I wrote, the words flowed through me and I have ended up with this poem which refelcts her true essence and expresses her love for sarees.

Her idea of saree shopping would consist of buying between 8-10 sarees at a time, many times a year. She loved all colours and wore them all with such elegance and pride.

As I reflect on this poem, I feel that for her, sarees were more than clothing, it was her vibrant personality which she expressed in so many beautiful ways, through what she wore.

Stress

Stress – an emotion so powerful, created by our minds. It is so powerful that 95% of all illnesses caused today are a result of stress.

With the demands of life today, stress is something that is hard to stay away from, even for those who usually deal well with it.

I share this poem. It comes from feelings of extreme stress, but also reflecting on why I felt that way. As I reflect, I remind my self, it’s all about the choices I make to either keep it near or keep it away. I hope you can resonate with it.
